Silver Travertine
Silver Travertine is one of the best known travertines in the Turkish stone trade, and this is its cross-cut face. Sawn across the bed, the sediment comes up as cloud and patch. The field is a mottled silver-grey with passages of taupe and warm sand running through it, dark mineral flecks scattered over it, and the open pores that give travertine its name. The grey base keeps the whole field cool, and the open pores take the glare off a wide surface. It is the stone of terraces, courtyards, spa floors and long hotel corridors. Vein-cut material from the same stone is listed as Silver Travertine Vein Cut.
