Limra

Limra is the pale limestone of Finike and Demre, on the Lycian coast of Antalya. The name is often spelled Lymra. It has almost no figure: a soft cream-white ground, even from edge to edge, with a fine grain and the occasional dark speck to prove it came out of the ground. That plainness is deliberate. Limra behaves like a material more than a decoration, a continuous, sun-coloured surface that reads as mass. It is one of the very few stones that can clad an entire building and keep its silence. It has been a façade stone of the Mediterranean for a long time and it remains one: terraces, courtyards, pool decks, stairs, and walls built to take the weather and gain from it.
