Dolomite Striato

Dolomite Striato is a calm white in which fine grey lines travel in one direction across an ivory ground. The surface is closer to woven cloth than to the branching drawing of a veined marble. It is the striato face of the white dolomite the world buys as Bianco Dolomiti. Opened along the bed, the layers come up as lines instead of clouds. Because every line faces the same way, the stone continues. Set slab after slab the lines cross the joints, and a corridor, a lift lobby or a full-height wall reads as one drawn surface. Turned upright, the same lines lengthen a room. It is a white for architecture more than for decoration: rhythm in place of figure.
